SJC fights alongside immigrants and communities of color for a fundamentally different future. We defend rights, build power, and create the conditions for equity.
Our Vision
We envision a world where every person has what they need to live a full life, freely, safely, and on their own terms. Where no one is caged, expelled, or denied the right to belong. Where human rights are not contingent on borders, documents, or the politics of the moment. This world looks nothing like the one we have now. And building it is not our work alone. It belongs to every movement fighting for the freedom and dignity of all people. Our liberation is bound together.

Fierce Love
We lead with love and hope. This work is hard, the systems are cruel, and the road is long. We keep going because we love the people we serve and the world we're building.
Collaboration
We are not here to manage suffering. We are here to end it, alongside the communities most impacted. Our work is rooted in shared power, shared strategy, and the belief that the people closest to the harm lead the solution.
Dignity Without Conditions
Legal status, language, country of origin: none of these determine a person's humanity. We show up fully for every client, without judgment and without conditions.
Holistic Care
Legal representation is where we start, not where we stop. We address the whole person, mental health, basic needs, and community belonging, because healing and justice are inseparable.
Systems Change
We work inside the system to protect people now, and outside of it to tear down the structures that make our work necessary. Harm reduction and abolition are both acts of love.
Community as Power
The strength of SJC comes from the communities we serve. We build with immigrants, not just for them, centering their voices, their leadership, and their vision for a just world.
Solidarity
We stand with immigrants, with people of color, with LGBTQ+ individuals, with anyone whose rights are under attack. None of us are free until all of us are free.

We are honest with our clients, our community, and each other. We say what we mean, we do what we say, and we hold ourselves accountable.

Defend, Dismantle, and Build are how we describe the work. They run from the work in front of us to the world we need, and each layer makes the next one possible.
We stay with a case from intake to final decision, no matter how long it takes. Legal work alone won't meet the needs of the people we serve, so our approach is trauma-informed and integrated.
